Gentle spring rainfall heralds the most beautiful proliferation of alpine flowers - lily, edelweiss, gentian and cyclamen, many of which still remain uncatalogued. Wildlife includes the rare snow leopard, lynx, Argaii sheep, feral goats, Gobi bear, foxes, wolves and wild boar. Mongolia's infrastructure is only just spreading it's wings after 80 years of communist domination, but, the innate hospitality of its' people and the remarkable terrain make it one of the few truly rewarding travel destinations left in our shrinking world. Whilst it has a land area roughly 20% that of Australia, the total population numbers little more than that of Sydney, making it the least densely populated country in Asia (1.75 people per square kilometer).
Being a nomadic people, there is little of architectural heritage in Mongolia. Thus, any visit comprises of witnessing the day to day life of the remote tribes (whose lifestyle has changed little since the days of Genghis Khan) and exploring the scenic wonders of this fascinating land.
Because of the vast distances you have to travel and total lack of roads, a comprehensive tour takes 7-12 days.
