Time aboard the train is full of diversions. In the Dining Cars, waiters present gourmet Asian and European dishes and fine wines in gleaming crystal and silverware. The Bar Car with its resident pianist and variety of local entertainment provides a special opportunity to meet fellow travellers.In the Saloon Car, the Boutique sells a range of exclusive Collection Eastern & Oriental Express merchandise, and there is also a reading room with a varied library. The most popular place on board however, is the open decked Observation Car, which provides an unbeatable opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery.The E&O accommodates 132 passengers in 66 air-conditioned cabins, all furnished with beautiful fabrics, fine linens and soft towels, and a friendly room service is available 24 hours a day.The Eastern & Oriental Express offers three grades of beautifully appointed compartments: Pullman Superiors, State Cabins and Presidential Suites. The interior walls are cherry wood and elm burr paneled, adorned with decorative marquetry and intricate inlays. Each compartment is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and features large picture windows. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer. While guests dine at night, the steward transforms the compartment from a living room to a bedroom.The Observation Car is located at the very end of the train. Its interior section is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails amidst a colonial ‘veranda’ ambience with its teak wood flooring, paneled walls, rattan furniture and potted plants. One-third of the Observation Car is an outdoor observation area decorated with teakwood. Offering unobstructed views, it is the perfect place to take photographs of the panoramic scenery.Smoking is permitted on the outdoor area. At the end of your day relax and socialise with your fellow passengers in the Bar Car and listen to the sounds of the piano from the resident pianist. The bar is open throughout the day and late into the night for the service of cocktails, aperitifs and liqueurs and local entertainment is performed in the evenings.

Travel through the magnificent landscapes of Thailand at a leisurely pace on board the Eastern & Oriental Express and visit the impressive Bhuddhist temples in Si Satchanalai and enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride to Baan Sao Nok before returning to the train for your onward journey to the vibrant city of Bangkok.

Day 1 Wednesday - Chiang Mai
Board The Eastern & Oriental Express for an afternoon departure. Tea is served as you say goodbye to a country renowned for its rich and colourful history evident in its architecture. Relax in your private compartment before enjoying dinner in one of the restaurants. Overnight onboard the train.

Day 2 Thursday - Swankhaloke & Lampang
Breakfast in your compartment before the train arrives at Sawankhaloke. Waiting coaches take you to Si Satchanalai, part of the northernmost citadel of the ancient Khmer empire. Explore the impressive 13th century Bhuddhist temples. Return to the train at Sila At for lunch while you continue your journey through Thailand. Mid afternoon disembark at Lampang for a horse-drawn carriage ride to Baan Sao Nok “the house of many pillars”. Enjoy tea as you tour the house which is built in traditional Lanna Thai style and supported on 116 teak pillars. Return to the E&O to prepare for dinner on board and overnight.

Day 3 Friday - Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok after breakfast where you disembark.
