Day 2 Beijing (BL)
Full day tour to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven & Summer Palace
Forbidden City– was the Chinese imperial palace from the mid Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost five centuries, it served as the home of the Emperor and his household, as well as the ceremonial and political centre of the Chinese government. Tiananmen Square – is the large plaza near the centre of Beijing. It has great cultural significants as a symbol because it was the site of several key events in Chinese history. Temple of Heaven – literally the Altar of Heaven, is a complex of Taoist buildings situated in south eastern Beijing. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. Summer Palace – is the largest imperial garden in the world. It is a veritable museum of classical Chinese garden architecture. The initial construction of the Summer Palace began in 1750, commissioned by Emperor Qinglong as a gift for his mother’s birthday. The construction took 15yrs to complete
Day 3 Beijing (BL)
Full day tour to the Great Wall at Mutianyu (cable cars) & Sacred Way.
Great Wall – First built in the mid 6th Century during the Northern Qi, Mutianyu Great Wall is older than the Badaling section of the Great Wall. The Muitianyu section is the best quality among all sections of the wall. Spirit of Guardians at the Ming Tombs – one of the most impressive sights at the Ming Tombs. The Sacred way runs for about a kilometre and is flanked on both sides by carvings of human and animal figures. There are 12 large stone human figures and 24 of animals, all carved from single block of granite in 1435
Day 4 Beijing - Chengdu (B)
Morning tour to the Hutong by rickshaw & Exterior View of Bird's Nest &Water Cube. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. Flight Beijing to Chengdu. Arrive Chengdu and transferred to your hotel. If time permits visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base.Hutongs - are alleys formed by lines of traditional courtyard residences
Day 5 Chengdu – Lhasa (BLD)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lhasa. Fly Chengdu to Lhasa. Arrive Lhasa, transfer to your hotel
Day 6 Lhasa (BLD)
Full day tour to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Bharkor Street
Potala Palace – is an immense structure, its interior space being in excess of 130,000 metres square. Fulfilling numerous functions, the Potala Palace was first and foremost the residence of the Dali Lama. In addition it was the seat of the Tibetan government, where all ceremonies of state were held, and it was one of Tibet’s major pilgrimage training of monks and administrators. Jokhang Temple – is the holiest site in Tibetan Buddhism. The temple was constructed to hosue a sacred image of the Buddha, which Queen Wengcheng brought with her from China as a dowry. Bharkor street – is an ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple, which pilgrims walk clockwise from dawn to dusk with their prayer wheels. It is also Tibet’s most active market.
Day 7 Lhasa (BLD)
Full day tour to Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and Norbulingka Summer Palace
Drepung Monastery – founded in 1416 was once Tibet’s largest and most influential monastery. Today it houses around 700 monks. Sera Monastery – was the last of the three principal Yellow Sect monasteries. Unlike the others it is not built on a hill. Norbulingka Summer Palace – is a palace and park which served as the traditional summer residence of the Dali Lamas from 1780 to late 1950’s
Day 8 Lhasa – Chengdu (B)
Transfer to airport for your flight to Chengdu and then onto Shanghai. Fly Lhasa to Chengdu. Fly Chengdu to Shanghai. Arrive Shanghai, transfer to your hotel
Day 9 Shanghai (BL)
Full day tour to Zhujiajiao Water Town & Shanghai Museum.
Shanghai Museum - is a museum of ancient Chinese art. Its possesses a collection of 120,000 pieces of precious and rare works of art. Zhujiajiao – is an ancient water town with a history of more than 1700years
Day 10 Shanghai (B)
Morning tour to Yu Yuan Gardens, China Town and the Bund. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
Yu Yuan Garden – built in 1577, was specially built for Pan, a government officer’s, parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age. Yu means pleasing and satisfying. The Bund – is an area which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of road, as well as some adjacent areas. The Bund is one of the most famous tourist areas in Shanghai
